There are genuinely things chronic illness can teach or strengthen in you.

There are genuinely things chronic illness can teach or strengthen not because suffering is good, but because you’ve had to develop things you might never otherwise have had to develop.

I claim all my power back to me 🧡

You can become more:

Present – noticing tiny moments that would once have passed you by.

Protective of your time and energy – learning that you don’t have to say yes to everything.

Connected to your body – understanding sensations, limits, cycles and warning signs.

Compassionate – especially toward people whose struggles aren’t visible.

Resilient – not the cheesy “strong woman who can handle anything” kind, but the I can have a terrible day and still come back tomorrow kind.

Creative – finding ways to experience pleasure, movement, intimacy, family and life differently.

Intentional – choosing what actually matters rather than automatically living on autopilot.

Appreciative – not because every pain-free moment is magical, but because ordinary comfort can become something you genuinely notice.

Boundaries – learning that protecting yourself isn’t selfish.

Emotionally aware – recognising when you’re genuinely struggling instead of automatically pushing through.

Determined to live – not waiting for the perfect body or perfect circumstances before allowing yourself to have a life.

I think there’s an especially beautiful outlook hidden in what Ive been saying:

I don’t want to spend my life waiting until Im pain-free to start living intently.

That’s huge.

I can still kiss your partner.

I can laugh with my kids.

I can make art.

I can build my business.

I can keep studying.

All thats meant to be will find its way to me 🧡

Watch ridiculous movies at 2am wrapped in a blanket while in a flare up.

Go away from people and things till I want to come up for air.

Make many memories.

Feel good feel sexy.

Create things.

Have adventures big or small.

Rest without guilt or self resentment.

Be completely absorbed in something beautiful.

Observe, don’t absorb 🧡

And sometimes I have to modify those things. Sometimes pain will interrupt them. Sometimes I’ll be furious about it, truly it can get infuriating not being able to do things at a faster pace as I did in the past. I cant push myself harder when Im in chronic pain.

That’s okay too.

A healthy outlook isn’t “Everything happens for a reason.”

It’s more like – This is hard, but there is still so much here.

And honestly, I think that’s a really worthwhile direction.

My writing is not romanticising chronic illness, but exploring how to build a ridiculously full life around a body that sometimes makes things harder.
